I worked as the Digital Design Director at the award-winning, independent student newspaper, The Daily Orange. In my position, I oversaw all digital design content, the majority of which would be posted online to accompany stories on the website and on instagram. For this work, writers would explain the stories to me, and pitch ideas of what they were thinking for illustrations. I would then take creative control to create graphics and illustrations that would bring their stories to life. The majority of this work was made using adobe illustrator and procreate. I would make between 4-8 graphics per night.

Below are a few highlighted graphics I have created during my time there. Click the titles of the work to view the full story and graphic on The Daily Orange website.

Story: Zombie’ driver Bari Musawwir lives out childhood dream as Monster Jam driver

This animation was created in anticipation of Bari “Zombie” Musawwir’s debut at Monster Jam, a monster truck championship competition. The illustration in this animation represents Musawwir’s unique monster truck, recognizable by its zombie arms.

Story: Roundtable: Where Syracuse men’s soccer stands before postseason play

This illustration was made for a story discussing Clemson University’s men’s soccer stats, and how they pose a threat to the upcoming game against Syracuse. The illustration of the mountain represents the challenges Syracuse men’s soccer faces for the upcoming season due to Clemson’s success.

Story: ‘Break that stigma’ Students, businesses hope for growth, change in cannabis industry

This illustrated timeline was created for the special “4/20” issue of The Daily Orange, which discussed cannabis use, and the growing industry in New York due to cannabis legalization. This illustration walks readers through the timeline of cannabis legalization in New York, while being integrated into a fun illustration that matches the nature of the 4/20 guide stories.
